Changing Trends In Bollywood

With a strong background in commercial and parallel/ art cinema, India has now witnessed tremendous changes in the way films are being made and consumed by an ever-changing audience. Some of the works from contemporary Indian filmmakers will be screened and discussed in the class. This will cover films that are bold in their themes, experimental in their approach, and are very hard-hitting and real in their intent.

Some of the films that will be screened and/ or discussed include Monsoon Wedding, Bend it like Beckham, SlumDog Millionaire, Dev D, Hazaar Khwaishen Aisi, and Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, and more. This will also cover films that are made in the US by Indian Directors including Where is the Party Dude, American Desi, Geeta in Paradise, and My Father's Daughter. People will learn about a new culture through one of the most powerful mediums, namely films.
